Get Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
We’re here to help you navigate online school in California!
Can anybody do online school in California?
Online school is available to most students, but there may be specific eligibility requirements depending on your age, grade level and residency. Taylion Academy serves California students in grades TK-12 and offers flexible online learning options.
If you have questions about whether online school is right for you, our enrollment team can help you determine your eligibility.
Can you enroll in an online school at any time in California?
Yes! Taylion Academy offers open enrollment, meaning you can start at any time throughout the year. Our flexible scheduling allows students to begin courses when it’s most convenient for them rather than waiting for a traditional semester start date.
What makes an online school accredited in California?
An online school is accredited when it meets the academic and operational standards that recognized accrediting organizations set. Accreditation ensures that the school provides a high-quality education, follows state curriculum guidelines and offers diplomas that colleges, employers and other institutions recognize.
Taylion Academy is accredited in the state of California, meaning our courses meet rigorous educational standards and our graduates receive a diploma that is widely accepted.
Is online school free in California?
Yes! In California, many online public and charter schools, including Taylion Academy, are tuition-free for eligible students. As a state-funded school, we provide a high-quality online education at no cost to Utah residents in grades TK-12. However, some optional programs or materials may have associated fees. Contact our enrollment team for more details on what’s included.
What is a Taylion Student Success Coach?
A Student Success Coach is a dedicated, personalized mentor who provides one-on-one academic support, guidance and advocacy for our high school students, helping them navigate their educational journey through holistic coaching and individualized strategies. At Taylion Academy, we are passionate educators who meet with students weekly to empower them to identify, build and achieve their academic and personal goals by offering comprehensive support, communication and resources tailored to each student's unique needs.
Why is Taylion's enrollment process different from other schools?
Local schools serve one district. Taylion Academy serves students from multiple districts statewide. Not all districts statewide accept the same documentation.
How does self-enrollment work if I am at least 18 years old or an emancipated minor?
Students who are 18 or older must meet Taylion Academy's age eligibility requirements. Students must also submit academic documentation of all courses attempted since entering the ninth grade. A school counselor will review documentation to determine the student's eligibility to complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment. Students who cannot complete the program requirements before meeting the age cap for enrollment are not eligible to enroll.
Emancipated minors are required to complete the parent/legal guardian (caretaker) acknowledgment form and provide all required enrollment documentation before the student can enroll. Emancipated minors must also submit court documentation for their emancipation.
Students 18 years and older are able to enroll themselves.
Please contact the enrollment team at (760) 951-5501 for more information.
What immunizations are required to enroll in California?
The California Department of Health & Human Services requires certain vaccines for all students. See their documentation for the requirements.
You can compare the student’s immunization record to California's immunization record requirements.
Where can I get immunizations for my student?
Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics or hospitals. Pediatricians and family doctors or their nurses or medical assistants can give your student the shots they need to meet the requirements for school enrollment. In addition, some large chain pharmacies offer immunizations for older children and adults.
Student immunization records can also be accessed via the California State Immunization Information System.
What if I need assistance paying for vaccines?
If you need assistance paying for shots/vaccinations, you may be able to get free or reduced immunizations through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.
VFC is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of an inability to pay. Children who are eligible for VFC vaccines are entitled to receive pediatric vaccines that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends.
Are there immunization exemptions?
A student may be exempt from immunizations for medical reasons, religious beliefs or personal reasons. All exemptions require a signature and date. Letters must be submitted each year.
Please see the California Department of Health and Human Services website for details around exemptions.
